Policies and Procedures of Grace Note Studies:
Overview: All students enrolled in my studio are offered a well-rounded program of instruction with training in performance, repertoire, technique, theory, musicianship, ear training, and music history. Lessons run parallel to the academic calendar, and holiday breaks follow the FCPS schedule. I do not teach over the summer.
Tuition: The tuition rate per weekly half-hour lesson is $40.00. There will be 3 trimesters throughout the academic calendar each consisting of 12 lessons. Tuition of $480 is due by the first lesson of each trimester. (Tuition is $60.00 per weekly 45-minute lesson, or $720 per trimester.) Tuition does not include music or other study materials. As a courtesy, I purchase these and invoice you for reimbursement.
Cancellation Policy:
Lessons missed due to my cancellation or inclement weather will be made up at a mutually agreeable time at the earliest convenience. Please call if you are unsure as to whether or not lessons have been canceled due to weather. I will do my best to notify you of any changes to the schedule at least 24 hours in advance.
Please do not send a sick student to a lesson. If you need to cancel for any reason, please extend a courtesy call to my cell telephone as far in advance as possible. No make-up lessons will be given if a cancellation happens by your initiation. No refunds will be given out of that trimester tuition. No tuition credits will be transferred to future trimester tuition payments.
Termination: If it becomes necessary to stop lessons, the student is expected to finish out the trimester as there are no refunds on tuition paid. Advance notice of at least one month would be appreciated.

Preparation for Success:
Students are responsible for daily practice, timely attendance, and the required lesson materials. To develop good work habits and self-discipline, a regular practice time should be set aside each day. Even beginners are expected to practice every day in order to keep up with the curriculum. Consistent attendance will aid in musical success; so, do not skip a lesson because the student has not practiced or does not want to come. Fluctuations in interest are perfectly normal and should not signal an end to their musical training. If you have any questions or concerns, please call me before making any decisions about lesson termination.
Recital:
There will be one annual recital which typically takes place in the Spring, usually in late March or early April. Participation is strongly encouraged. Friends and family are welcome to attend, light refreshments are served at the conclusion. A large Yamaha grand piano is provided at the venue courtesy of my husband, an executive with the 100-year-old Washington, DC metro area piano retailer, Jordan Kitt's Music Company.
Thank you. Your cooperation in these matters is greatly appreciated and will help to make the student’s music studies a wonderful experience!
